Looking for one of the best luxury hotels in central London? The Bloomsbury Hotel combines timeless elegance with contemporary comfort in the heart of Bloomsbury, just moments from Covent Garden, Soho and the West End.
Part of The Doyle Collection — the Irish family-owned luxury hotel group behind The Kensington and The Marylebone here in London — The Bloomsbury occupies a striking 1928 Grade II listed building designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Its 153 rooms and suites sit in the old stomping ground of the Bloomsbury Set, the circle of writers and thinkers that included Virginia Woolf and E.M. Forster, and the hotel leans into that literary heritage throughout — right down to the Seamus Heaney Library, an intimate, book-lined first-floor room named after the Nobel Prize-winning poet who was once a regular visitor. Behind its impressive façade, stylish interiors, attentive service and a vibrant dining scene combine to create an atmosphere that’s both sophisticated and effortlessly relaxed.
Unlike many of London’s grand heritage hotels, The Bloomsbury has an intimate, residential character, more reminiscent of a polished London residence than a traditional hotel.

The Room
For our stay, we checked into one of the hotel’s Luxury Studio Suites, an elegant open-plan space designed to resemble a stylish London apartment more than a traditional hotel room. Large windows filled the suite with natural light, while parquet flooring, sleek blinds and a palette of earthy neutrals created a serene retreat in the heart of the city.
Playful design details introduced character throughout the suite, from the statement wallpaper and lantern-style lampshades to the vintage-inspired upholstery and striking red upholstered headboard, which added a welcome pop of colour against the otherwise neutral interiors. The overall aesthetic was refined without becoming overly formal, striking a perfect balance between classic elegance and contemporary comfort.
The Italian marble bathroom featured a walk-in rainfall shower alongside a freestanding roll-top bathtub, with heated floors underfoot and indulgent Frédéric Malle toiletries, plush bathrobes and slippers adding to the sense of indulgence. A Nespresso coffee machine, kettle with a selection of teas and hot chocolate, complimentary Wi-Fi, a generous wardrobe and a spacious desk ensured every practical detail had been considered, making the suite equally suited to a weekend escape or a longer stay in London.
Shortly after settling into our suite, we were welcomed with English sparkling wine, an indulgent cheese platter, dainty cakes and a handwritten card. It was a thoughtful touch that immediately made us feel at home and added a personal touch to the start of our stay.
That evening, the turndown service added another layer to the experience. Returning after dinner, the blinds and curtains had been drawn, bottled water had been placed beside the bed alongside neatly arranged slippers, and a small chocolate and bookmark had been left on the bedside table. They’re small details, but it’s thoughtful touches like these that elevate a luxury hotel stay from enjoyable to memorable.
As always, travelling with Charlotte plays a big part in where I choose to stay, and The Bloomsbury gave her a warm welcome from the moment we arrived. Charlotte was equally well looked after, with a comfortable dog bed, water bowl and welcome treat waiting in the room on arrival.
Dining in The Coral Room
As evening fell, I headed to The Coral Room, the hotel’s iconic bar that has become a destination in its own right.
Designed by Martin Brudnizki, the vibrant coral-coloured interiors, marble tables and soft lighting create an atmosphere that’s both glamorous and relaxed, making it an ideal setting whether you’re stopping by for cocktails or settling in for the evening.
During my visit, I sampled cocktails from The Devil Wears Prada collaboration: the Runway Royale, Cerulean, and The Miranda Club. Each was beautifully presented and offered its own distinctive character, making the collection every bit as photogenic as it was to drink.
To accompany the drinks, I ordered a selection of dishes from the evening menu. The That’s All Steak Skewers were perfectly cooked and full of flavour, while the crispy fried chicken paired well with the subtly spiced harissa mayonnaise. The pork sliders completed the spread, offering a comforting yet elevated take on a classic favourite.
By morning, The Coral Room had transformed into an altogether different space. Bathed in natural daylight, it offered a calm, elegant setting for breakfast, where Charlotte happily joined me once again.
I started with freshly baked pastries and seasonal fruit before enjoying a fluffy omelette and the pain perdu, accompanied by freshly brewed coffee and a glass of fresh orange juice. It was the perfect way to ease into the morning before checking out.
Beyond the Room: Dalloway Terrace and Hotel Facilities
Although I didn’t dine there during this stay, Dalloway Terrace remains one of my favourite terraces in London. Reinvented with each season, it’s equally inviting for summer lunches beneath cascading florals as it is for cosy winter dining. If you’re staying at The Bloomsbury, it’s well worth adding to your itinerary.
Exploring Bloomsbury
One of the greatest reasons to stay at The Bloomsbury Hotel is its exceptional central London location.
Situated between Covent Garden, Soho and Fitzrovia, the hotel places many of London’s most iconic attractions within walking distance. The British Museum is just a few minutes away, while the theatres of the West End, Seven Dials, Neal’s Yard, Oxford Street and Regent Street are all easily reached on foot.
For those travelling with dogs, nearby Russell Square and the surrounding garden squares provide pleasant green spaces for morning and evening walks, while the central location makes exploring London remarkably convenient.
Getting There
The Bloomsbury Hotel is located on Great Russell Street in the heart of central London.
Tottenham Court Road Underground station is less than a five-minute walk away, providing direct access via the Elizabeth, Central and Northern lines. Holborn station is also nearby, while Euston, King’s Cross St Pancras and Charing Cross can all be reached within a short taxi ride or a leisurely walk.
Its central location makes The Bloomsbury Hotel an excellent base whether you’re arriving from elsewhere in the UK or planning to explore London on foot.
