Amid the busy streets of the City of London, South Place Hotel offers a stylish retreat where contemporary design meets understated luxury. With its sleek interiors and relaxed atmosphere, it makes an appealing choice for a city staycation, away from the bustle outside.
Having first visited a couple of years ago, I was looking forward to returning with Charlotte. We were given the same Junior Suite as on our previous stay, making it particularly nice to revisit a hotel we had enjoyed before and discover that many of the thoughtful details remained just as memorable.

Our Junior Suite
The Junior Suite is open-plan and generously proportioned, with refined, modern interiors and ample space to unwind. It featured a super king-size bed, a work desk and a living area by the window, overlooking South Place below. I particularly liked the dark wooden flooring, which sets this suite apart from the hotel’s carpeted Junior Suites, along with its contemporary design and layout.
What sets the suite apart further is its freestanding bathtub, an indulgence I always look for in a luxury hotel. After a day of travelling and creating content, a long bubble bath was a welcome treat and the perfect way to wind down in the evening. I was also pleasantly surprised by how wonderfully bubbly the body wash was — there is nothing quite as disappointing as one that barely produces any lather!
Alongside the bathtub was a rainfall shower, complemented by double marble washbasins that added to the bathroom’s luxurious feel.
There was also a dedicated corner with complimentary tea and a Lavazza coffee machine, while a drawer stocked with snacks offered something to nibble on between meals.
Charlotte was welcomed as warmly as before. Waiting for her were her own dog bed and bowls, a tennis ball and waste bags. I remembered that she had also been given a little bathrobe during our previous stay, so I enquired about it and was delighted to find that one was still available. It was perhaps a little snugger around her extra rolls this time, but she looked just as adorable in it as ever.

Dinner at Bluebird City
Dinner was at Bluebird City, the hotel’s relaxed all-day restaurant on the ground floor. I had dined here several times in the past, when it was known as 3SP, so the surroundings felt familiar. Having also visited Bluebird’s Chelsea location, I was curious to experience its City outpost.
I began with dressed crab and soda bread, a light and fresh start to the meal. This was followed by a ribeye steak, cooked medium rare and served with fries and grilled hispi cabbage. Charlotte may even have managed to sneak a few cheeky bites!
For dessert, I opted for the chocolate fondant, served with dark chocolate and vanilla custard, raspberry gel and honeycomb. Rich and indulgent, it was a lovely way to round off the meal. I finished with an Espresso Martini, the ideal nightcap.
Service was attentive throughout, and it is always a pleasure to find a hotel restaurant where dogs are welcome in both the restaurant and bar areas. Being able to enjoy dinner without leaving Charlotte behind makes the experience all the more enjoyable.

Breakfast in the Suite
The following morning, we took things slowly and had breakfast delivered to the suite. I ordered the full English breakfast, alongside fresh pastries and a seasonal fruit plate. Prepared by the Bluebird kitchen, everything was just as I had hoped, and enjoying breakfast in the comfort of our suite made for a wonderfully relaxed start to the day.

Getting There
South Place Hotel is particularly convenient if, like me, you travel around London without a car. The hotel is a short walk from Liverpool Street Station, making it easy to reach via the Elizabeth line, Central, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines, as well as National Rail services.
Moorgate and Bank stations are also within walking distance, providing further options for getting around the City and beyond. For a London staycation, I always appreciate a hotel that is so well connected, particularly when travelling with a dog and wanting to keep the journey as straightforward as possible.
Final Thoughts
It was good to return to South Place Hotel and experience it again a couple of years after our first visit. The Junior Suite remains a comfortable option for a London stay, with its freestanding bathtub and contemporary interiors, while the thoughtful dog-friendly amenities made travelling with Charlotte easy.
With Bluebird City downstairs and Liverpool Street Station just a short walk away, it’s a convenient choice for a city break. If you’re looking for a stylish hotel in the City of London that welcomes dogs, South Place Hotel is well worth considering.
