Tucked within a beautifully restored red-brick Victorian building, Andaz London Liverpool Street blends historic character with contemporary design in one of the capital’s most well-connected locations. Originally opened in 1884 as the Great Eastern Hotel, the property was designed by Charles Barry Jr. and Edward Middleton Barry — sons of Charles Barry — and built to serve the growing number of passengers travelling through Liverpool Street Station during the expansion of Britain’s railway network.
Following several transformations — including a major restoration in the early 2000s — the hotel reopened under Hyatt’s Andaz brand in 2007. Today, it strikes a careful balance between heritage and modernity, with original architectural features sitting alongside bold interiors and contemporary artwork.

The Room
The hotel offers 267 rooms and suites, designed with a clean, contemporary aesthetic that subtly nods to its railway heritage. Interiors are understated but considered, with high ceilings, warm wood tones, and thoughtful detailing throughout.
We stayed in a King Bed Deluxe room — generously proportioned, with two large windows that filled the space with natural light. Furnishings included a comfortable king-sized bed, a wingback chair, and a bespoke walnut desk, while the bathroom featured both a bathtub and rain shower.
In-room amenities are well thought out, including a 55” smart TV, yukata robes, Nespresso machine, and a complimentary minibar stocked with snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, replenished daily — a signature Andaz touch.
Our room was positioned on the second floor with a ‘city view’, though in reality this overlooked nearby shops and a busy street. If views are important, it’s worth requesting a higher floor. That said, the soundproofing was excellent — an impressive detail given the hotel’s proximity to the station.
The hotel welcomes dogs of all sizes for a fee (at the time of writing, £60 per stay), making it a practical option for those travelling with pets in central London.
Charlotte was warmly welcomed on arrival — greeted by name, with a plush dog bed, bowls, treats, and a personalised welcome card waiting in the room. It’s a small but meaningful detail that reflects a genuinely dog-friendly approach, rather than a purely policy-driven one.

The Food
Dining is a key part of the experience at Andaz London Liverpool Street, with multiple restaurants and bars located throughout the property.
We dined at Miyako, the hotel’s long-standing Japanese restaurant, known for its classic menu of sushi, sashimi, and ramen. Highlights included the wakame salad, Wakadori karaage, crispy spicy salmon maki, and a well-executed tonkotsu takana ramen — all comforting, flavourful, and generously portioned. Charlotte was welcome to join us at the table, which added to the relaxed atmosphere.
Guests can also enjoy a complimentary evening wine hour in the lobby, typically held between 5–6pm — a sociable and well-received touch that adds to the hotel’s sense of hospitality.
Rather than heading down to the restaurant, I opted for in-room dining the following morning — a slower, more relaxed start to the day.
The timing coincided with the hotel’s recent “Breakfast Club” collaboration series, which brings rotating East London favourites into the hotel’s breakfast offering. During our stay, this included HOKO, the Hong Kong-inspired spot near Brick Lane, offering its much-loved Hong Kong French toast alongside the standard breakfast menu — a standout and a welcome point of difference from a typical hotel breakfast.

Getting There
Location is undoubtedly one of the hotel’s strongest assets. Positioned directly beside Liverpool Street Station, it offers immediate access to the Central, Elizabeth, Hammersmith & City, and Metropolitan lines, as well as national rail services.
Whether arriving via Heathrow on the Elizabeth line or Stansted via the Stansted Express, the convenience is hard to overstate. Shoreditch, Spitalfields, and Brick Lane are all within easy walking distance, making this an ideal base for exploring both the City and East London.
Overall, Andaz London Liverpool Street offers a well-balanced stay that combines heritage architecture with modern comfort and thoughtful service. While some room views may be less impressive at lower levels, the spacious layouts, strong soundproofing, and central location more than compensate.
For those seeking a luxury hotel near Liverpool Street Station — particularly one that bridges the City and Shoreditch — Andaz remains one of the most characterful and well-connected options in London.
