Tucked inside a beautifully restored Grade II listed red-brick Victorian building, Andaz London Liverpool Street is a 5-star hotel which blends historic charm with modern luxury in the heart of the city. Originally built in 1884 as the Great Eastern Hotel, designed by Charles Barry Jr. and Edward Middleton Barry, this historic landmark has undergone several renovations. Its establishment is intricately linked to the expansion of the British railway system in the late 19th century, commissioned by the Great Eastern Railway to serve the growing number of rail passengers travelling through Liverpool Street Station.
Since 2006, the hotel has been reimagined by Hyatt into a vibrant lifestyle hotel that honours its past while embracing contemporary design and service. The hotel’s architectural grandeur and opulent interiors have been well-preserved to the present day, and now offers 267 spacious and modern guest rooms, including 15 luxurious suites. The lobby features a striking monochrome wall created by the local art collective Le Gun, contrasted by vibrant mural art and ruby red velvet curtains. The hotel’s connection to the railways is a key part of its legacy and its influence is evident throughout the lobby, from plush velvet seating reminiscent of old train cars to riveted desks that evoke vintage travel trunks.
We both received a warm welcome upon arrival, and Charlotte was also acknowledged by her name, which is often a good indicator of a dog-friendly hotel. I was offered a welcome drink whilst our luggage was swiftly whisked up to our room.

The Room
We stayed in one of their King Bed Deluxe rooms which was spacious with a minimalist design; the high ceilings and two large windows which made the room feel more light and airy. The room featured a comfortable king bed (as the name would suggest), a large winged-backed chair, bespoke walnut desk, and a bathroom with a large bathtub and rain shower. In-room amenities included a 55” smart TV, luxury bath amenities and yukata robes, a Nespresso coffee maker and small kettle, and a complimentary minibar with snacks and non-alcoholic beverages which are replenished daily. We were allocated a room with a ‘city view’, but unfortunately as we were located on the second floor, we could not really see much beyond the row of shops opposite and the shopper stress of Tesco Express – it would be prudent to request for a higher floor if you would like an unobstructed view of the city. Despite being located above the restaurant and right next to the station entrance, our room was thankfully sound-proof.
Andaz London gladly welcomes cherished travel companions, which is a big draw for me when choosing a hotel. Charlotte was provided with a plush bed, feeding bowls, and a small pack of dog treats. The hotel also included Charlotte’s name on our welcome card, which was a nice personal touch. There is an additional fee of £60/per pet – pets much be registered on arrival with the front desk.

The Food
There are multiple dining options within the Andaz; we dined at Miyako, an intimate Japanese restaurant which offers a traditional menu of sushi, sashimi, teriyaki, as well as a Kyushu ramen menu. We enjoyed dishes including wakame salad, Wakadori Karaage chicken, crispy spicy salmon maki rolls, a sushi & tempura bento box, and a hearty bowl of Tonkotsu Takana ramen. The restaurant is also dog-friendly, so Charlotte was able to join us. The hotel also provides a happy hour from 5-6pm in the lobby area where guests can enjoy complimentary drinks and some nibbles.
The following morning, I decided to take advantage of their in-room dining service, opting for a leisurely breakfast in the comfort of our room. Andaz London has also recently introduced The Breakfast Club, teaming up with some of East London’s most iconic breakfast spots to bring exclusive morning delights to Rakes Café Bar and their in-room dining menu. Their first collaboration was an exclusive takeover by HOKO, the Hong Kong-inspired Brick Lane spot, so I was finally able to try HOKO’s legendary Hong Kong French Toast, alongside other delicious breakfast dishes from the in-room dining menu.

Getting There
The hotel is situated adjacent to Liverpool Street station with immediate access to multiple Underground lines – including the Central, Hammersmith & City, and Metropolitan lines, as well as the Elizabeth line. Additionally, numerous bus route serve the area, enhancing the hotel’s accessibility.
A word of thanks to Andaz London Liverpool Street for hosting us, we look forward to returning soon.
