BREAKFAST AT CITY LOUNGE | CROWNE PLAZA LONDON

As breakfast is my favourite meal of the day (although I may have said that about every other meal!) I was looking forward to checking out the newly launched breakfast menu at the City Lounge at Crowne Plaza London.

Located in the heart of the City of London’s financial district, just across from Blackfriars station, the recently refurbished City Lounge definitely exudes a sense of sophistication, with sleek interiors that invoke the contemporary way of life in the Square Mile. I was particularly partial towards their plush sofas and seating options – mine felt like I was in my own private little booth!

A firm believer that all days should start with a good cup of coffee, we ordered a cafetière from their Single Origin French Press selection which is ideal for sharing. We selected ‘The Booster’, described as ‘big and bold, great for a lift’ – an apt choice to help one get through a Monday morning. Being a fan of morning smoothies, we also tried ‘The Fresh Press’, a healthy concoction of strawberry, banana, maple syrup and lactose free milk. They also serve a selection of standard coffees made with their House Espresso blend, and for non-coffee drinkers, a variety of tea infusions.

The food menu is well-catered for individuals with different breakfast needs. For those looking for a light bite, they have a small pastry selection that would go well with your morning coffee, or if you’re after a healthier option, check out the Healthy Kick selection, where you have a choice of the classic porridge, granola, fresh fruit salad or the caramelised pink grapefruit.

If you’re like me and am absolutely famished in the morning upon waking, then The City Specials are sure to keep you satiated. We pigged out on The City Breakfast which is their take on the classic English breakfast – one that’s sure to keep you going for the rest of the day. Other options included the Bacon Sarnie, Classic Bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese, as well as a couple of vegan options e.g. Superfood Bowl and the Vegan Breakfast Muffin, made with avocado bread, which sounded interesting.

Eggs are always a great option for breakfast. Locally sourced from award winning organic farm, The Rhug Estate, you can choose how you like your eggs, either as an all white omelette or scrambled, and served with smoked salmon and organic sourdough toast. And of course we didn’t miss out on the classic favourite of smashed avocado on organic bloomer bread, topped with perfectly poached eggs.

For those who work in the city or are just passing by, the City Lounge at Crowne Plaza certainly shows good potential as a chic and comfortable workspace to meet and enjoy a wholesome breakfast at the same time.

Breakfast in the City Lounge is served from Monday to Friday from 7am – 11am, and on weekends and Bank Holidays from 8am – 11am.
